3G/4G continue to be the key driver for mobile service market because customers are more likely to use data service via smart phone such as social media, online entertainment and online shopping e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube etc. Which requires a lot of data usage.

The mobile service market is growing slightly. In 2016, the market value was more than 228 billion baht, or increased 6% compared to the previous year. In addition, operators are using price competition by offering packages to attract customers. As a result, their revenue continues to grow at a lower rate.

The number of mobile phones in Thailand continued to grow at the end of 2016, the number of mobile phones in Thailand was more than 90 million. Therefore, the penetration rate of 2016 was 138%, while 2015 was 126%, due to the aggressive marketing campaign to sell smartphones with monthly packages. As a result, monthly mobile phone subscriber numbers grew 21% from the previous year. The monthly mobile phone number accounted for 20% of the total number of mobile phones in the country.
